SOLVED: No joy from the 10 finger try out. However, after what seemed an eternity I did finally chase down the problem. My external backup drive is dying. When I unplugged it every thing went back to normal. Booting is fine, no freezing in Windows etc. Everything is copacetic again. Thanks
