PC hit from power surge via ethernet cable

I replaced the mobo, cpu and PSU and still the same error. I also swapped the memory with some spare I had that I know works 100% in another pc and still same error. The only thing I can think is Hard drive. I'd think maybe CPU but I ran Prime95 for a while with 0 errors and 0 warnings. I'm...

PC hit from power surge via ethernet cable

My home was struck by lightning via the cable lines which fried an older TV and damaged 2 PC's. My main machine still worked but it was giving me random freezes during gaming or after I started using my machine for 20 - 30 minutes. The odd thing is it doesn't hard freeze the machine, it pauses...

Wierd problem after tinkering around in case... uhoh?

You just discovered why not to use compressed air in a PC. It forces dust in places it shouldn't be and will create very odd problems. I just use a vacuum cleaner to suck it up. Now, you'll just have to hope more odd problems don't keep popping up.

    Advice for first Custom PC

Cdaveyj, I don't mean to be rude so please don't take it as such but if you've never heard of newegg or the term overclocking do you really have enough knowledge to be able to build a PC? While it's not rocket science if everything goes smoothly, it only takes a few minor problems to have you...

Games keep freezing after about 5 minutes of play.

67 degrees is insanely hot for that series chip. Buy this. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835233003 If you don't like push pins, buy the retention clip for another $10 but you'll have to take out your motherboard for installation. This will bring your temps down to...

    Problems with RAID 0

Draaco, You need to install the raid drivers that came with your motherboard at the beginning of your OS Setup. You can do this a few ways. If you spent the xtra $10 and put in a floppy drive, you can use it. If you didn't, your going to have to slipstream the drivers onto your OS Install...

    budget NZ gaming computer

yellowsnoman, The build itself looks good. I wouldn't make any changes. The suggestion I have is this. Buy a plane ticket to California, round trip for like $500-600 probably right now. Then buy this same comp for 1/2 the price and save yourself $1,000....

    Bottlenecking query

ac3144, We need more information. Which CPU & GPU? What Resolution do you Game in? The lower the resolution the more the CPU will have an impact on your FPS, the higher the resolution the more the GPU comes into play. It's tough to give you realistic information without knowing atleast...

    New Build Questions

ftlkid24, computersss' recommendations are spot on. The CPU/Mobo/Ram are perfect for your price point. For PSU I'd go with the PC Power & Cooling.

    New system suggestions

I would get a single 4890 and in 2 - 3 months if he wants more power he can get another one. I never like getting a X2 or a dual card setup right off the bat. 2 reasons. The obvious one being your future upgrade options are limited. The 2nd, some games just don't perform well in crossfire.

    Help Overclocking E8400, ASRock P45XE

It sounds to me that you aren't changing your memory divider. So when your ram trys to run at faster speeds, it doesn't work. for example, if you set your FSB to 400 and your cpu multiplier is set to 9, you will run at 3.6 ghz. But if your memory is set to run at 2:3, then you will be running...
