[SOLVED] Overclocking an Intel Xeon X5470 on a GA-EP45T-Extreme

I've had some success with an x5470 on a similar ep45-ud3p gigabyte board with MIT. Chips always vary but I've been able to hit 4.5ghz with plenty of heat, I had to get a big Phanteks dual fan cooler. Here's my voltage settings to compare and maybe give these a shot: Pll - 1.57 Term - 1.34...

Core 2 quad current heatsink or new one

That would work just fine for a basic heat sink - I'd throw some artic silver on there too to ensure good transfer.

Several problems when over clocking q9650

You'll want to do some stress testing like Prime95 small FFT's to determine if this voltage is good. Keep lowering voltage until you start getting errors and then go back up until stable. Running higher than needed is just extra heat and reduced life on the cpu. Here's a good guide for Core...

Core 2 quad current heatsink or new one

That would likely be the stock Intel cooler for the Pentium - not the greatest but if you're not gonna overclock it should be alright. You can always use something like Core Temp to monitor temps first before deciding you need a new sink.

Overclocking my core 2 duo E8500 . HELP NEEDED

Definitely need the aftermarket cooler. I got up to 3.8 on my e8500 at 400 FSB - just had to take memory frequency off Auto and to 2.00x since I only had DDR2-800. Faster memory I'm sure you could get even more, it's a great cpu I ran this overclock for several years with no problems. Here's...

Take a quad core past 4.0ghz?

Trying to keep my old gaming rig alive with a healthy OC on my q9500. So far I've reached 4.0 at 1.3125 vcore - running small ffts temps maxed at 63 (from core temp) air cooled system. One rounding error occurred 15 mins into the test, per stress.txt I opted to live with it and during multi...

Slow startup/win7 response after overclock Q9500

So I've been trying to see how much I can squeeze out of my new-old Q9500, I started with 400 FSB since I only have DDR2-800 and no volt changes and it was stable under P95 and Win7 seemed to get rolling same as it always has. Then, for fun and for a couple more FPS in Dragon Age I went for a...

Will an OC'd E8500 3.8ghz still keep up for 2015 gaming?

Appreciate the feedback from everyone, I ended up with a Q95 from Newegg at $150 and a GTX760 for $200 that I'll be keeping around for a while. Seems a little crazy I know, but just changing the proc is half the fun for me... and seeing what I can push out of this "old" system too. Keeping...

Will an OC'd E8500 3.8ghz still keep up for 2015 gaming?

Should I be concerned about the Q95 being a refurb? One review claims overheat problems, my Freezer keeps the current OCd E85 at 50C tops. So I'm thinking a mid-term upgrade of the Q95 and a GTX 760 which could obviously be re-used for the next full proc/mobo build.

Will an OC'd E8500 3.8ghz still keep up for 2015 gaming?

Thanks for the feedback! Looking at Newegg they have Q93's and Q95's available (the 93 is much better priced). Given my current DDR2-800 I'm going to get at most a 3.0ghz overclock with a Q93, correct? DDR2-1000 is fairly expensive but would that be the key to getting any real gains with a...
