    MSI Big Bang SLI issues

Got it figured out. Just had to eliminate all the things it could be.. one of those was the SLI bridge. Even though I had tried two, neither were confirmed good. I threw the known good one from my old machine on, and viola, works like a charm. If anyone else has the MSI Big Bang-XPower, know...

    MSI Big Bang SLI issues

Yeah, that occured to me as I was writing the OP; that I didn't try it at back at stock. That may well relieve some pressure on the PCI bus. I'll give that a try when I get home. Thanks.

    MSI Big Bang SLI issues

I checked drivers and BIOSes this afternoon. All up to snuff. I'm thinking/worried that it's fairly new hardware, and there may be some issue that WILL be fixed in a BIOS patch but currently isn't. I hope not, but at the same time, it beats an RMA.

So I put together a new i7 system yesterday, with fresh Win7x64Ultimate, and had no problems. Inside looks like: MB: MSI Big Bang X-Power CPU: i7 930 OC'd to 4.1 CPU Cooler: Cooler Master V8 RAM: 6GB A-Data DDR3 Triple Channel @ 1880 GPU: 2 x Gigabyte GTX460s 1GB SLI HDD: 2 x Kingston SSDNow...

Report: Google to Design Chrome OS Netbook

Aww, for a split second, I thought it meant a "chrome", as in the shiny metal, netbook. I'd buy that for a dollar. Then I came to my senses.

ICANN to Allow Non-Latin Characters in Domains

So by doing this I see several problems that could immediately crop up: They will have effectively split the internet; "These sites for this country, those for that country." It will become -much- harder to directly type URLs. Will they allow the same words and domain names to double up in the...

Music Royalties Body Threatens Singing Store Clerk

What I'd like to know is: How did they know she was singing? Did someone snitch? Do they have ninja spies everywhere? She was singing to herself, the back of isle 5 or somewhere, and they want to fine her for singing to herself. That seems more like an invasion of privacy than anything else...

    LaCie Blu-ray Burns at 8x

I second Luscious. It might as well be a 100x burner, for the media that's available right now. You'll never find 8x Blurays outside of NASA or something anyway.

Disk Manufacturers Settle on Encryption Standard

Maybe this is just the cynic in me, but by creating a standard, on the other side of the blade, does that not also mean that once someone figures out a workaround/crack for the encryption, they can just dance from machine to machine and open them all up with the same method?

Cache differences in RAID arrays; Does it matter?

I've got two WD5000AAKS's; 500GB SATA 3gb/s drives with 32MB caches, and two SG Barracudas 500GB SATA 3gb/s drives with 16mb cache. The question I have is: does the cache size between elements in a RAID array affect the overall performance of the array in any meaningful way? I know that...

how fast should i set the fan speed for 8800gt

These are the exact same cards I have, two in SLI, and I have my setting to take the fans to full bore on Windows boot. They run fairly warm if you don't do that, as the fans spin at about 30%. I've found that the dynamic scaling does not work very well with these cards, so even under load...

New build won't post; advice wanted

Well, right out of the gate, I'd suggest a few things: Make sure the CMOS jumper is correctly set to "normal" mode. Probably wouldn't boot properly in "clear" mode. Sounds like you probably have some spare parts laying around, try to use a discrete video card; you may be able to at least...

    Newbie Build HTPC, Assistance

If I were sitting down to build a HTPC, I'd probably assemble a similar list; looks pretty good. The only thing I might suggest is looking into the Radeon line of cards instead. Reasons: Most have HDMI already standard, and when it comes to video playback, most have been known to have snazzier...

    Computer won't boot.

Hmm, I've had problems like that in the past. It may be a problem with the new motherboard and the case not agreeing on the grounding. Course, it sounds like it is actually staying on, so that's probably not it. The other rather basic thing that is easy to overlook is the CMOS jumper pin. It...
