I haven't had a chance to reinstall everything yet. Cubase and the many VST instruments are my concern but we'll see how it goes. Cubase itself will be fine but some of the VST plug-ins are quite old.
I've installed a clean Windows 10 on a brand new SSD. I'll be keeping my old PC and Win7 SSD just in case I need to use them while I complete the migration process.
I won't be going down the WIndows 7 path now.
Yes... you raise a really good argument here. I'm going to have to bite the bullet and move to Win10.. and find another SSD big enough so I can keep my Win7 content in the meantime. I didn't even think about the motherboard not having Win7 drivers.

I have an old Lenovo U430P with a 4th Gen i7-4510U, 8Gig RAM (Windows ) and SSD. I don't care about graphics and games. I use it to write music on the go using VST instruments (using Renoise) and I've started maxing out the CPU.
What CPU would offer a significant speed increase to this one...
