For the record if this helps anyone in future… The problem was nothing to do with the processor, power supply or motherboard it turned out to be one of the DDR4 sticks, booted up perfectly when the faulty stick was taken out. Just shows how misleading the beep codes are!

Thanks that’s my experience, is checking the voltage out of the power supply a good indicator in the absence of a new power supply?

I have a 3 year old desktop with Gigabyte z390 board and Ami bios, giving 5 beeps on power up. Reset the bios, removed memory, removed graphics card and still 5 beeps which indicates cpu. Will try resetting the cpu but if that doesn’t fix how can I be sure it’s the cpu? Thanks, Rob
