If I don't have a dvd or suitable usb , how about a clone drive utility such as Daemon tool or virtual clone drive?

I took the downloaded files from D:/ and copied the files to C:/. Once I did that, I unzipped the files loaded the full installer and installed to C:/. When I reboot, I am asked which OS to boot. So I assume that the OS went on to the drive.

With a bit of time on my hands an being a construction guy, I thought to experiment with my x86 build by trying out the ubuntu os. I downloaded to a second hdd, moved it to C:/ and installed. Rebooted, choose "Ubuntu" and pressed enter. Started to load but didn't complete with a host of error...

Didn't work. Main problem is I can't start the netman, (network connections) Rasman, rasauto and rsvp services. Used sc config and sc start since can't get into administrative tools/ services because of the snap in problem. Checked the registry and the services are there but they won't start...

I have recently downloaded the free version of avg's antivirus software from avg's site. I decided to try avg because xp is no longer supported and I presently am using microsoft essentials. However, I am having installation problems. Do I have to remove "essentials" before avg will install?
