thank you for the replies. I believe it is showing 4 cores with 8 threads. Its running on an old win 2008 R2 server. In task manager I see eight process graphs. A standard quad core i7 4790K should replace the existing CPU.

Thank you for your reply. I have never used VMs. What is the performance hit? Can a VM run multiple cores/threads. Can I load an existing image onto a VM without reinstalling the OS from scratch? Are there compatibility issues with older OS's?
