Followed that advice to the letter. Deleted the specified registry entries but still no joy. Restored the deleted entries and now Device Manager shows the device in the "unknown" folder. Looking at other remarks on the site you directed me to it seems to be a problem affecting mostly users...

There were no cables, whole unit plugged directly into the motherboard.

Ok. No cables, it plugged directly to the motherboard. Eased it out with a screwdriver. Followed your procedure but alas no joy.

Thanks for your speedy response. Sounds stupid but how on earth do it unplud the drive? I've had the top and keyboard off but can't see how to unplug it.
