That is a really good list but you have ommitted the Alpine PSU, which is definetely budget at about £19-23. However hving said that I have two (600W) and use one for gaming and it has been fine for over three years.

In answer to the OP, yes most memory will work on this board as I own the same one (Gigabyte G41M-Combo) The memory I use is Corsair 1666Mhz 4Gb and that works absolutely fine. Of course it doesn't actually run at this speed due to motherboard limitations but it works nonetheless. Hope this...

Old thread I know but equally important. I have thje 650W version of this PSU which I bought at the time of this discussion and it has worked FLAWLESSLY. I paid £22 for it so is a case of buy cheap and get quality :-)

I still own a Dell Vostro 410 and I have swapped out the motherboard when it died for a Gigabyte G41M Combo S3. I did have to do a bit of metalwork on the back admittedly but the screw holes were fine. As the point about power supplies most Dells nowadays do not use proprietary PSUs on DESKTOPS...

Just use any recovery disc (OEM included). That has worked fine for me. I downgraded my Dell Vostro 410 to XP SP2 using a Mesh recovery disc with ease. SP3 is better as you can still update with that. I have been updating my (sic) XP installation only tonight.

I agree with those using Avast, have been using it since v4.7 and it has never let me down in 10 years.

I am using 1666 for a 1333 (OC) motherboard RAM, so yes it is possible.

I have one of those diagnostics cards that show this particular fault to be with the BIOS chip? If you can change it, you may give the motherboard a new lease of life? Cheaper than just getting a new motherboard...
