Choosing a Gaming Capable College Laptop for my Sister

My sister is really a sweetheart. She apologized this morning, for not knowing what she wanted from the get-go when she requested that I help her with this task. I'm finding out that many of things that she would LIKE to have on the laptop, are not strictly must-haves. Originally, first and...

Choosing a Gaming Capable College Laptop for my Sister

She may game on it during school on rare occasions when her workload is low, but mostly during vacations. Still, it must be mobile, because she moves around visiting place to place. Also, I texted her about this post, she said that I may have put too much weight on her comment about the...

Choosing a Gaming Capable College Laptop for my Sister

My sister just got a scholarship for her upper division classes, and as part of the package she gets to choose any laptop she wants, and it appears the sky is the limit for the budget. SHE HAS TO SUBMIT THE INVOICE BY TUESDAY. She wants me to get the best specs possible, but practical...

Desktop GPU Performance Hierarchy Table (Archive)

IMHO, the GTX 1070 performs far two close to the 980 ti and Titan X in most cases to be ranked an entire tier higher. In a number of benchmarks, the Titan X sometimes edges ahead of the GTX 1070. Ranking the GTX 1080 2 tiers higher might be a stretch; nonetheless, this generation's X70 part...

    Best PC Builds (Archive)

I second this! AMD makes great cards that deliver exceptional Windows performance for the price. But Linux performance is another story entirely.I saw an article on Phoronix where the $150 GTX 950 outperformed a $600 R9 Fury in some benchmarks. The R9 Fury Linux performance wasn't terrible for...

WHat is a good (but not too large) HSF for old AM2+ CPU??

OH yeah, and I"m still looking for a cooler for my mom and sister. Jerry, I am concerned that cooler might be too big. They DO have a mid-tower, but its kinda skinny. That heatsink looks similar to my xigmatek one that i linked. It needs to be about an inch shorter than the xigmatek one.

What's a Good Target Offset Voltage for 3570k@ 4.6 GHz?

Hi all! I have been running a Core i5 3570k at 4.6 GHz. for over a month now at an offset of 0.09 volts. I ran Prime95 for about 14 hours on it, so i think its stable. To ensure the longest lifespan possible and lowest thermal output, I want to tweak the voltage and lower it, and my Asrock...

WHat is a good (but not too large) HSF for old AM2+ CPU??

Here is a link to the HSFs that I mentioned in my post for reference: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835233029 And also, i won't be overclocking these most likely. Even so, I am wary about using AMDs stock HSFs because these stock solutions would heat my CPU to 100...

WHat is a good (but not too large) HSF for old AM2+ CPU??

I have several systems with a Gigabyte Chassis that I'm giving away to my mom and my sister. I have a couple xigmatek dark knight II SD1283 Heatsink Fan solutions lying around. They WILL install in the gigabyte chassis on the motherboard, but they are too tall to get the case lid back on...
