bono_john, try changing power plan setting to high performance. It seems to be fixing the problem.

I found a post with someone having the same problem. All they did to solve was change the power plan to high performance. I just did that and it seems to help. Time will tell. I'll also try to check windows update. EDIT: Windows update checker said everything is up to date.

So is it just a waiting game then?

Service host local system seems to be spiking up the disk usage.

Was watching processes and waiting for another freeze. When it froze up and the disk usage went up, the only processes that were high on the list were system, google chrome, and service host. But they were only using like maybe a few mb/s, nothing crazy.

Any solutions?
