News How to Secure Erase an SSD or HDD Before Selling It or Your PC

If you found the reddit thread to read up on this, you also saw people who were willing to offer large sums of money because they genuinely had zero'd drives with data they wanted, but the data recovery companies were unwilling to even talk about price because it was impossible.

News How to Secure Erase an SSD or HDD Before Selling It or Your PC

You should submit this to a journal. There is a standing challenge to anyone who can demonstrate the ability to read any data from an HDD that has been overwritten, just once, with zeroes. The Great Zero Challenge of 2008 had a bunch of vendors called to ask to recover data that had been...

News How to Secure Erase an SSD or HDD Before Selling It or Your PC

Someone took the time to "update" this article, enough for me to get an email notification, but it still has the use-crystal-magic-to-cure-cancer equivalent of needing to overwrite a hard drive several times.

Question Nvidia 4080 ti card worked yesterday, now will not get past white LED on POST

Having posted that last night, this was extremely scary news: https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/technology/msi-hit-in-cyberattack-warns-against-installing-knock-off-firmware/ar-AA19BuvM But we grabbed the official BIOS. A new video card in this new system worked. We are starting the RMA process...

Question Could lifting GPU while it's installed on the motherboard multiple times damage the GPU and motherboard?

I have a system where I suspect the GPU was so heavy it bent the pins while sitting in place. It seems insane that things could be designed this way but I guess it happens sometimes? Weird.

Question Nvidia 4080 ti card worked yesterday, now will not get past white LED on POST

The system originally had the AAGS850 when the video card was upgraded. It worked for a while! Anyway, we put in a new power supply, a Corsair RM1000x. We get the same results, which is that the new 4080 card gets stuck at White in POST, and the old 1080 video card gets to Green. Out of ideas...

Question Nvidia 4080 ti card worked yesterday, now will not get past white LED on POST

Desktop was functioning fine. It crashed and Windows reported something about a driver and attempting a repair. Since then, we can't even get into the BIOS. Boot fails during POST. Motherboard: TUF gaming something, can’t boot into bios to check it out, has 16GB of Corsair RAM PSU: AGS850 CPU...

News How to Secure Erase an SSD or HDD Before Selling It or Your PC

No one is breaking AES full disk encryption. A number of businesses have a policy that nothing with any business data can be sent elsewhere, not even returned to the manufacturer. It all goes to the shredder. This may or may not be overkill but when you are doing something at scale it's too...

News How to Secure Erase an SSD or HDD Before Selling It or Your PC

I am disappoint to see the voodoo about "overwriting multiple times with random data" for HDDs. No one has ever demonstrated, not even once, not even under controlled conditions to make it as easy as possible, the ability to get any data from a drive overwritten with all 0s. Call up a data...
