Yes. There are nine difficult levels, from Settler (easiest) to Deity (hardest). Chieftain and warlord are levels 2 and 3, respectively.

Surely someone has some idea of what's wrong... Could it possibly be DirectX 11 conflicting with the game engine?

I recently bought a copy of Skyrim on sale. It installed fine (even though I dislike Steam dependency), but after the "Bethesda Drum" sound, there is no audio whatsoever ingame. Furthermore, subtitles, although i enabled them, don't show up, and the game refuses to progress past the cart...
