I recently bought a copy of Skyrim on sale. It installed fine (even though I dislike Steam dependency), but after the "Bethesda Drum" sound, there is no audio whatsoever ingame. Furthermore, subtitles, although i enabled them, don't show up, and the game refuses to progress past the cart scene.
From some searching I've already done, it seems that this could be a DirectX problem, or something having to do with my sound card, a Realtek (although that wouldn't explain the apparent lack of ingame triggers). I currently have DirectX 11, and all drivers should be up to date. It has been suggested to install a DirectX update/version/something of the sort, but it seems I already have everything installed.
I have tried:
-installing the DirectX SDK
-re-installing Skyrim
-updating sound card drivers
None of this has worked so far. Any help would be appreciated!
::edit::
Also, on loading the game, the Skyrim logo will appear on the screen, which will then freeze for about 10 seconds before unfreezing and displaying the menu.
