120 fps

I just bought a 144Hz monitor and my good old 2-fans GTX760 turns into a helicopter everytime when I let my game's framerate go up above 100 fps. Is this because the video card? I'm low on budget at the moment but should this problem go away by changing the card to a more recent one? A GTX 1650...
