I'm running a GTX 750 ti Asus OC and some terrible Benq 1440x900 monitor. I'm planning to upgrade to a 970 and an Ultra-Wide LG 25UM55-P. The only problem is I can only upgrade one now and the other around April or May. So what should I upgrade first?

I finished building my first rig and after it didn't post at all. I realized I had a z97 chipset on a z87 mobo. i5 4690k on a asus hero vi. yeah I feel like a moron but my question is did I damage anything and if I switch to a z97 mobo it should hopefully post?
