Hey all,
I'm sure there's an obvious answer, but I'm finding myself drawing a blank. Why are there different multipliers for CPU's? Why isn't there a standard for this? I know CPU's operate at different speeds, with those multipliers representing the ratio of internal:external speeds, but why...
I'm looking to order a Toshiba Satellite P740-BT4N22 and have it custom built to my specs. I've decided to go with the Intel i3-2310m processor and right now they are including 6GB DDR3 1333MHz SDRAM for free. A local computer tech told me that I need to stick with either 4GB or 8GB of RAM with...
So I have an old hard drive with windows xp and personal files on it. I want to wipe it clean and put windows 7 on it and us it as a secondary computer. What is the best way of doing this? Also I was told once something is put on a hard drive it can never be erased, is that true? If it is what...

I need to find a heatsink/fan for my 955BE with an available upwards airflow. Dual-fan push/pull option with at least one fan included, I have one extra 120mm to add. Budget pricing (less than $40) and able to fit a Antec 300 Illusion case. My measurement for the case seems like it will fit up...
Hi everyone,
I need to find the best way to get perfect airflow in my Antec 300 case.
It's about 73 degrees Fahrenheit in my room and my GPU is around 48c to 51c idle. Earlier today, my GPU went up to 97c when I was playing GTA IV. It wasn't even so hot in my room either, I find it weird...

I have checked BIOS, it's set to HD audio. The mic works in back and both front and rear audio jacks work. when i plug my mic into the front i get a notification that i have plugged in a device, it is recogized as a mic in windows. If it was a cable issue i dont think it would do anything when...

Hello,
Where can I find engineering measurements for ATX case standards. For example, the the height and spacing of where the expansion boards screw into. Also possibly a template for the motherboard standoff, screw and tap size.
Thank You.

do processor manufacturers use the same dies for desktop and mobile parts
i.e can lets say a 4 core sandy bridge die be used for either a mobile part(by udervolting and underclocking) or a desktop part
BTW how are mobile parts derived, that is are they undervolated underclocked etc

does this look normal to everyone? I am kind of a noob, but following the advice of some tech friends and things I read online.
My main question is about the Freq : 2940 MHz (133.64 * 22) listed in bold red, is this normal or something to...

Is there ANY difference between an ATX and a BTX 700 watt power supply as used in Gateway computers? Can you test the BTX power supply by shorting pins 15 and 16 to see if it is any good?
Hello guys,
I'm Adam and im pretty new to computer upgrading etc so go easy on me :) just looking for a little advice please.
Right, I have a packard Bell intel core 2 quad Q8300 on a EG43M Motherboard.
Now I know I am VERY restricted to what I can upgrade on this as its prebuilt (dont shoot...
No one seems to be addressing this issue.
From my very limited understanding of this subject if you have an active PFC power supply you need a pure sine wave UPS to actually provide power interruption protection.
Those are quite a bit more expensive.
Is a one of the main benefits of active...

So I have just upgraded my CPU from T7300 to T9500 on my Dell inspiron 1520, BIOS shows max freq=2.6Ghz, but CPU-Z, Everest and Intel CPU ID Utility all show that the CPU frequency is at only 2.16Ghz. I checked Everest and it shows that the FSB is running at 666Mhz where it is supposed to be...
I have just built a pc for the first time and am not familiar with optimal performance specifics. Norton gave me a usage warning that one or more cores reached near 100%. This occured as I loaded a heavily populated area of WoW with maxed settings. I am wondering if this is normal and/or safe...
I was experiencing random crashes (reboots) when playing games. So I ran GPU and CPU stress tests (at the same time) and very quickly the CPU reached 85c, so I stopped and I assume that the CPU is the problem. GPUs never got above 65c.

I was wondering something about my CPU..
AMD's website says it's temp is suppose to be running at 55-70c, and mine is OC'd to 3.7GHz, and it's temp is 36-40, is it okay if it runs at so low a temp? Even playing black ops it only gets to about 47c. Just wondering if it's okay if it runs as so...
Hello all:
Someone suggested that my CPU (Q6600) was bottlenecking my system and that upgrading would give my computer a boost (I primarily use it for gaming and CAD)
System: Q6600, 650il chipset, 4GB DDR2 800, ATI/AMD 5850.
I assumed that the CPU was 'good enough' not to affect games or...
