Surge Damage

I had a power outage a couple days ago and after the power came back on my PC was dead. The fans and lights worked but I couldn't get to bios. I tried a variety of solutions none worked except replacing my motherboard. Replacing my motherboard worked and all my other parts seem to be fine...

Don't really know where to put this but anyways as the title suggests, should I get surge protection for my ethernet? Forgot to unplug my router after a power outage, will this damage the router and my pc that is connected through ethernet?
