£1000 Gaming PC New Build

It's been about 2 years since I last built a PC and am a little unsure what is the best for the money at the moment. The budget is around £1000 and it needs to be gaming orientated but still be useful for general University use. Likely only very light Photo/video editing. This is my build so far:

Case: Fractal Design Define R4 Black Pearl
CPU: Intel CPU i5-4670K 3.4GHz Socket 1150 Quad Core Haswell
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z87-HD3 Intel Z87 Socket 1150
GPU: Asus Radeon R9 280X DirectCU II TOP
Memory: Corsair Memory Vengeance Jet Black 8GB DDR3 1866 MHz
SSD: Samsung 840 EVO 250GB Basic SSD
HDD: Seagate 1TB SATA 3
PSU: Corsair CP-9020015-UK CX 750W
Heatsink: CM Hyper 212
Optical Drive: Samsung x24 DVD Writer
Operating system: Windows 8.1 64Bit Operating System

So how does this look? Does this build synergise well and is there anything that you would suggest over what i've chosen? I am looking to buy all/most of the parts to this PC from Scan.co.uk so please try and limit suggestions to this website. That is unless there is a very strong pick from another site.

Get 1866 instead of 1600, Tomshardware or Anandtech did some testing and came to the conclusion that its worth it for Haswell. Also, you should be able to grab a R9 280x:

Do not get that low profile cooler. Your case and mobo can accommodate better. Also, get one that blows air across and towards the rear exhaust which then sucks the warmer air out of the case.

I think it looks good!

- Likewise, CM Hyper 212 Evo or 212x
- R9 280x and the 7970 are roughly the same, with the 7970 bettering it by like 1 FPS. Choose which ever one is cheapest. If you are getting the R9 280x, get the ASUS one because it's quietest

Thanks for your responses.

1866MHz RAM is a very similar price to the 1600, so I'll change that one.
The R9 280x looks very promising and the prices seem very similar to that of the 7970, changed to the Asus one as it reviews very well from many sites and as you say it's quiet.
I agree the fractal design case looks very good, I also remember the NZXT cases had air flow issues, but that was 2 years ago.
I will change the Heatsink to the CM hyper 212, I was just struggling to find them in stock in the UK.

I've updated my first post to include the changes. If you guys have any more suggestions that would be great as I am looking to put in the order soon.

The R3 is the old version. The new one is the R4. Excellent case.

Added a 1TB HDD and changed the case to the new version. Thanks for this guys, build's looking very good now.

It all comes to £1037.67.
