Hello,

I'm running a 2003TS here at school, and we have 25licence's for clients to
connect to that server.
I thought that this was enough, because we have only 12employees.
Now is the problem that some people have used TS from different locations,
but only for 5min. to read there mail, and every time,that counts for 1
license for 3months......so now we don't have any license's left, and half
of the licence's that I can see in the mannager we don't use!
Is there a way to delete some of those unused license's?

Thanks,
Nico.

Sounds like you have bought "Per Device" TS CALs, while "Per
User" would have been better.

Maybe you can switch TS CAL types. From the
Windows Server 2003 Pricing and Licensing FAQ
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserver2003/howtobuy/licensing/pric
licfaq.mspx

<quote>
Q. Will I be allowed to switch between Windows Device CALs and
Windows User CALs? What about TS CALs?

A. If your Windows CALs are covered under Software Assurance (SA),
you have a one-time right to convert Device CALs to User CALs mid-
contract. You can also convert those Windows CALs from Device CALs
to User CALs, or vice versa, when you renew your SA contract. If
your Windows CALs are not covered under SA, you may not switch;
your choice is permanent. This also applies to TS CALs.
</quote>

You can't revoke those licenses, and it shouldn't be necessary
either.

TS CALs have an expiration date of 52-89 days. Licenses that are
not used (because the client does not connect to the TS anymore)
will automatically be returned to the LS after the expiration
date. In the meantime, your new clients will get a temporary TS
CAL, which is valid for 90 days.

Note that these time periods are choosen to make sure that your
temporary license lasts long enough for the old license to become
available again. So if you are reaching the end of the 90 day
temporary license period without having TS CALs available, it
means that you have - at least during some time period - connected
with more clients than you had TS CALs and you simply have to buy
extra TS CALs.
