0164 Memory Error

Hello I am building a computer out of left over parts from another computer, I bought some RAM that appears not to work, so I took one stick of the ram which origanlly came with the computer which is now leftovers into the machine and it appeared to work, so I am planning on using the ram from the PC I built and put it into the one that I am making and just buy new ram, but when I put the ram from my new pc into the one made out of left over pieces it came up with a message saying this 2048M installed memory passed then down the page saying 0164 Memory Size Error it then proceded to say that No Operating System found (Which is ok because I haven't installed the OS yet.

I am wondering if this is bad or will it be fine and I just need to put the disc in?

It's difficult to answer your question if we don't know what motherboard and memory module you are using. Does the motherboard support 2GB memory modules?

Yes, the ram from the computer which is already built came from the one that is now leftovers and is compatible with the motherboard I am building, I am just not sure if this error is important and should be addressed, or is it since the operating system isn't currently installed on the machine that is being built that is causing the error.

If you get that error at POST, then it should be addressed. We can't help if you won't tell us what motherboard and memory module. Does it work properly with other modules?

Hello, the motherboard is a L-IQ45 Panda motherboard, I can't find out what the ram is other then that it is, DDR3, 1066MHz and was made by Samsung, also I took pictures during the computers turn on with 1 x 2 GB stick of ddr3 1066 MHz ram (From the computer I already built). Here is a link to the pictures, also I noticed while going through the pictures another error on the 6th link something to do with check cable? I don't suppose you know if that's important?

In previous posts you didn't mention the PC is an OEM made by Lenovo. Previously installed memory modules were not the same size; pressing F1 and then saving the settings should resolve that issue.

The PXE error is normal if an Ethernet cable is not connected; if you don't have a server to boot an image from just disable PXE.

So it's all fine? I can put the full 8 GB in the machine I'm building (The one which had the errors) and it will be fine?

It costs you absolutely nothing to try it, but you'll have to go into the BIOS and save the settings so that it will recognize the memory size has changed.

Ok thanks, I have purchased some new RAM to replace the RAM that is being moved to the computer which had the errors. Thanks. I already got the RAM I bought checked to be sure it works.

You hopefully realize that you'll probably get the error unless you install exactly the same amount of memory that was installed the last time the settings were saved.
