Why am I getting this? I got a disc from my friend got the CD key then activated it 2 days ago and that same day my other friend gave me his windows 7 Ultimate key and I upgraded to ultimate. Now when I go to my Properties it says this and when I try to activate it it says "This key cannot be used to activate your windows" or something like that. I put in my friends windows 7 ultimate key and thats what i get. :\
I clicked the buy new key online etc and it had me download a valid windows thing and it said "Welcome to Windows!
Because Windows installed on your PC is genuine, enjoy the security, reliability and protection it provides."

So what should i do? Just wait it out until I have to reinstall everything to my computer? I might as well download a pirated version instead because I wouldn't have this problem -_-....

it's a genuine key, and your copy of Windows is genuine, but you cannot activate multiple copies with the same license at once.

It said "activated" because it recognized your provided key as genuine. As soon as you connected to the Internet, the Windows Licensing server realized that you were using the same key as your friend and notified you of that. You must buy a separate license to continue using Windows on your computer.

My guess is when you bought the new key,you downloaded it but didnt actually activate it. You need to check it is correct on the system properties page and then activate the key.

Your only solution here is to buy a key. Windows is pretty good about catching pirated versions of Windows as well, as soon as you connect to the Internet they'll come down on you like a ton of bricks.

It appears as though you should buy a legitimate copy of Windows 7. I'm closing this thread as we don't help with illegally obtained software.
