1 gig FSB??

I am building a new system for a friend of mine and have a couple of questions. The biggest one is that the cpu (AMD 64 3000+) is being shown with a 1gig FSB. If i remember my AMD stuff, it is double rated so it is 500MHz FSB. When I go looking for ram i find DDR600 as the fastest before you jump to DDR2. sence it is double rated then it is 300MHz.
I know that there is something that I must be missing but can not figure it out. Any help would be great, and if you need to call me stupid I will understand.

ok, any ideas for GIGABYTE GA-K8N Ultra-9? I was looking at a gig of CORSAIR ValueSelect on newegg for $85.
Just as a side note to help me understand, the mb also states that it supporst a 1gig FSB. What does this give me?
If AMD does not have a FSB any more then should I save the $35 bucks and go with a mb that shows a 800MHz FSB?
Sorry for all the questions, I just want to make sure that I cover all my bases before I punch in my credit card number.

Heh, the confusion of Hypertransport...

Hypertransport is the FSB of the Athlon 64. But for our purposes the 'FSB' of an Athlon 64 is 200mhz (so it uses DDR400/PC3200 RAM)and there's an HTT Multiplier that goes up to 4 or 5, giving you the 800mhz and 1000mhz fsb that the marketing people quote. As far as performance goes, 800 and 1000 are the same (there's more bandwidth there than the system needs).

A HTT of 600 MHZ showed no difference in speed over one at 1 GHz. At 400 MHZ, there was some difference, but not really noticable. If your car is locked at 60 MPH, even a speed limit of 65 MPH wont make it going faster. Dig in the neoseeker.com web site for an article about overclocking the A64. They explain all you want to know about the different BUS and show you some benchmark too. Avery good reading, IMHO.
