1 Massive Switch (48 port) or can I use 2 smaller?

I need to expand my network switch only by about 10 ports. Instead of shelling out the 300 for a 48 port, I thought to get a another 16 port on top of what I have.

Is it better to have 1, 48 port switch, or is it fine to run a cable to another?!

I want to try to keep data transfer speeds the fastest.

Thx.

Yes, you can daisychain switches, no problem.
Assuming they are all 10/100/1000, of course.

It will work either way.

But depending on your topology, sometimes it maybe advantageous to use 2 switches. Lets say you have a department that talk to each other a lot, but all confined within that department. In this case you may want to keep everybody there on 1 switch, so their heavy traffic don't need to traverse "out" to disturb and potentially take bandwidth away from the other departments, segments of the LAN.

Learned this in Cisco school, they teach you how to deploy your switches for performance.
