1 stick 5 Gb RAM

is there a 1 stick 5Gb memory? i installed windows 2008 server on desktop IBM server and when i view the information the memory installed was 5Gb..due to my curiosity i open the case of the server and i saw a 1 stick of physical memory and i noticed that there is battery attached to it.
what is the function of the battery that attached to the physical ram? TIA

The battery powers the memory when the pc is off.

Who knows with such an old server and ram module? It might've been 5gb to start with. Maybe its 6 but keeps 1 gb reserve. You'd have to google the ram make and model to get more info.
