I have an older PC running a 2.66 Pentium 4 and an ASUS motherboard. Bought it from sony as a desktop PC VAIO.

I used SiSoftware Sandra to get some specs.
It shows that I have 3 memory slots and a maxium memory of 1GB,

Could this be 1GB per slot or 1GB for the entire board??????
AND...........
Would it be best to use a 1GB stick or two 512mb sticks???
and....
it also says in the sandra to use buffered/registered memory, but I can't find any memory with these listings????
It was using PC2600??? i believe DDR SDRAM

What are your thoughts??????
thanks

Sandra didn't make your desktop. Sony did. Check their help site for ram compatiblity. It may be buried in some obscure documents like maintenance. Or just the user's manual.

I bought this as a refurbished model and never got all the manuals, I will check the website
.
I still have to ask, assuming that it is 1GB max, IS it better to use 2x512mb or 1x1Gb???

The difference would be very tough to tell.
On some boards 2x512mb would be better but on a 3 slotted board I don't think it matters one bit and in cases were it does, the difference is to small to be humanly perceptible.
