Hi

The title is not the complete question.

I contacted one ISP to get some bandwidth from them to start a small broadband service in my circle.

They gave me the following details.

10 Mbps (1:1) Dedicated Internet Bandwidth
OTC 10,000

They said, I can give 2Mbps speed to 40 computers.
If i give more than 40 connections, they told i need to buy more bandwidth from them. Because only 40 people can connect at the same time to use internet from 10Mbps.

This is what they said.
Can someone please explain how does this work?

Hi,

Think of bandwidth as a reservation of a timeslot of each cycle.

For example, Here is an image of the cycle

A customer purchase say 10mbps plan. He will be reserving slot 1-2 for each slot is equivalent to 5 mbps. These slot, however, has a limit to how many computer can use. I believe a slot is for 1 computer. *these numbers are hypothetical*

So for your side, you have reserved 40 slots for 40 computers for each slot is equivalent to 0.25 mbps. If you upgrade your plan, you will have more slots to use
