Been stuck on 98.something % since May. Using PhilHibbs mini-gun (a weapon
I've NEVER use in SA) idea I passed dirt-track. That inspired me to come up
with something, anything to beat 8-track. I've tried cheats before but
nothing worked. My biggest hope was on the "cars float away" cheat code but
gravity is stronger (it seems) in the 8-track ring. So I tried the "hated
man" code and lo and behold, as soon as the countdown starts all the other
drivers get out of their cars to come and beat me up. So I can just take off
and run them down. I think their cars disappear when you kill them, leaving
fewer obstacles on the road. But of course the game introduces new cars
magically during every lap. But it worked. Disappointed to have to cheat
after 96.XX % as I never had to do it for III and VC. Curse you Zero!!
BTW the areas outside the track in 8-track are not solid. If you jump the
barrier you fall into black/grey hell. The disqualification counter runs out
just as you splat on some invisible surface. One time I landed next to a
solitary docks crane in the darkness. Weird!

Oh dear - then you won't want to hear that I started a new game yesterday,
and after doing all the tags, firetruck and ambulance in LS my driving skill
was up enough to do 8-track. First place, first attempt.

Sorry ;-)

8-Track was difficult but I got it eventually. I think dirt-track is
the only one you can cheat on without cheat codes. Go on, have another
go!

I expect you could do dirt-track with satchel charges instead of
minigun.

No need to be sorry. Some folks are better at racing than others. I just
found this one particularly difficult.
Bet you found the dancing hard. I got that first time. ;-)

Plus I find the hotring racer to be very back heavy...bizarrely moreso as I
get into the last few laps.
I doubt they have tyre deterioration built in so it must be my active
imagination.

Same here, although I did play Parappa The Rapper non-stop for two days
when it was released.

Even in SA, the dancing really isn't that difficult if you know the
layout of a PS2/X-Box joypad.

Cheers,

Is it just me who doesn't get people who cheat?

I mean, what's to be proud of about a 100% you get after entering some code
to make it easier?

I think pride is a bit too strong a word Paul. It's just a video game after
all. It's not like like winning the World Cup or Champions League. ;-)
My game's basically been idle for a couple of months cause generally I just
run around katana'ing people's heads off or molotov'ing the general public.
Or running my debt into the red so I can do battle with a couple of punks.
Or maxing out the girlfriends.
When I saw Phil's solution to dirt track I though Oooh that's interesting.
It is all about having fun isn't it? I know I did.

Got any hints on the train driver mission? I should have pinched that
engine-only train in End Of The Line.

Not really. Slow down if the train starts to shake or you'll de-rail. That's
about it.

Is that a quarter inch on a 14" laptop, or on a 56" widescreen plasma
cinema system? :)

Did it last night. It's easy, so long as you don't lose your nerve at
high speed or overshoot the station.

My "murder the opposition with a minigun" tactic is also working for
the LS street races, except that the game keeps crashing before I can
get back to a safe house :-(

From which train station you begin, you'll go around the state to
complete level 1, stopping at all the stations.
Hit R3 a second time for the exact same trip, for level 2.

The train starts to shake at "speed 45". Keep it
below that, and mark the destination whith the target locator, about
a quarter inch away from the destination for brake time.
The train accelerates and deccelerates at a slow pace.
As long as you have 20+ seconds on the clock left,
upon a small over-shoot, you can back up in time.

You can't fail the Brown Streak unless you fall asleep from the most
boring views and activity in the game. Funny to see LS bike cops
run into the train and fall off. Ignore the one-star.

I have now achieved 100%! I completed the Vinewood race on a friend's
computer, then did the last San Fierro race, but discovered that I was
only on 98.x%. A quick check through my guide and I realised that I
hadn't done the martial arts fighting moves in the SF and LV gyms. I
guess I should have listened to Millie.
