Not sure, I have a windows 7 64 bit DVD that came with my pc but I have never upgraded the mobo before

And Most Importantly, Why Are You Upgrading: Having trouble playing new games, fps stutters a lot, Planetside 2 runs at 40fps on low and newer games need a lot of tweaking to run well, hoping to run new games on high / max without any issues

Ah sorry, have $1000 to spend on upgrades to my gaming rig, looking at replacing the CPU and MOBO as I can't go any higher than an AM3 CPU, and also looking into replacing the GPU as well.

Not sure if my ram should also be replaced and if i can re-use my PSU

Question is what parts should I get and what can I re-use
 
Your current system is pretty strong, I would only upgrade the CPU, maybe to a 8320. Also, get the GTX 970. That'll be fine.
