100mbps internet, 802.11ac giving maximum ~50mbps speeds?

I recently upgraded my internet to 100down/10up plan. I'm constantly getting 110/11 on wired connection, but only around 30mbps on wifi (max. ~52 while standing right next to the router so it's probably limited to 54? Less than 10 when further away). When I'm connected to the WiFi the devices show 860mbps connection speed, but the real speed is nowhere near the 100mbps it should be. My upload speeds are ~9-10mbps through WiFi which they are supposed to be.

I've tried changing channels, bandwidth, WMM settings, tkip+aes > aes... I've tried pretty much everything I can think of.

My router is a Technicolor TC7230.

What client device are you using? Are you using 5Ghz? If you are limited to 54Mbit, then for some reason the router would be acting as a "G" router.

I would start with a factory reset to ensure you didn't mess up something in all the "changing" you did.

I already did reset the settings. It's using 5Ghz and shows that its connected with 802.11ac and I can't find any network speed limitation settings in the router control panel.

What link speed does the OS show your WIFI is connected? What performance does another device (phone, tablet, etc) get on 5Ghz?

What about using 2.4Ghz? What performance do you get then?

You didn't answer what you were using for your host WIFI, adapter model etc ...

The OS shows link speed as 860mbps. Every device gets the same performance (except old devices with older WiFi technology). When using 2.4Ghz the performance is worse (~10mbps right next to the router), but I haven't changed the settings at all.

I'm using technicolor TC7230 cable modem/router to host the WiFi and for my cable internet.

If you have a link of 800+Mbit, then there is something that doesn't make sense. How are you testing your speed?

I'm using the Ookla speedtest app on android and windows. And through Wifi Steam downloads at 4MB/s, so that would be 32Mbps.

It is not your router, it is the wifi Device that you are using that is slow bandwidth. Which Wifi card/usb are you using in your PC and which mobile phone are you using?

My PC has a Realtek 802.11ac pcie WiFi card and I have a OnePlus 5 (+phones of other family members). I don't know exactly how good the PC card is, but I have had 300/300 internet through WiFi on my phone at a friends place. So my devices shouldn't be the problem.

if the card is AC it should be ok . try connecting to the router and then see the connection type from inside the router setup.

also try 2.4 ghz connection and see the speed .

I've tried 5Ghz 802.11ac and 2.4Ghz 802.11n. When using only one of them the speeds are similar (around 30Mbps), except 5Ghz is faster (50Mbps) right next to the router and 2.4GHz is faster than 5Ghz far away. The connection speed is 144mbps on 2.4Ghz and 860mbps on 5Ghz.

It seems like there's something limiting the speed, but there shouldn't be anything.

Hi Leevi - I am having exactly the same problem on an HP laptop with Win 10. My connection speed is 200mbps but can't get above 54 with either a BT or RealTek 801.22ac USB adaptor even though router does 200 mbps as veridied by Apple phone. Did you ever get an answer to this one?

I too am having the same issue. I am using an ASUS RT-AC66U router. The wired connection works at 100-115Mbps. The wireless connection, on 5Ghz gets max speeds of 50Mbps. I just upgraded the firmware and reset the router back to factory settings. I have this router at my home and my office and both are providing the same results of full speed when wired and 50Mbps when wireless. This is the same when using a Sufacebook 2 and using my Pixel Android phone.
