100Mbps to 500Mbps

Hi guys!

I recently changed my internet speed to 500mpbs but according to speedtest.net I'm still running a 100mbps connection

So I went on device manager ---> network adapters ---> right clicked on my LAN card ---> and changed my speed and duplex to 1.0Gbps...

Speedtest shows that I run a 500mpbs connection only in the LAN cable is directly connected from my modem to my PC

but.....

If i plug my cable from my modem to my wireless router to my computer it doesn't recognize or detect and connection until I change my speed and duplex back to 100Mbps full duplex....

Any Ideas?

Your router may have a 100Mbit WAN port. What router do you have?

I have a tp-link wdr 4300 and the LAN ports at the back just says ethernet 1,2,3,4. No specfic speed port

If you look at this website

It says you can achieve up to 800mbps (the picture showing the back of the wireless router)

OK, now that you have identified your router, it does have a gigabit WAN port so that shouldn't be the problem. Next guess is always the cable. Try a brand new cat5e cable between the modem and router. There are no LEDs on the router to show the connection speed of the wired ports. There doesn't seem to be any status in the web admin that will show it either. It is going to be difficult to tell which port isn't at gigabit....

Your router is an N750 which means that the TOTAL wireless bandwidth is 750Mbit. 2.4Ghz is limited to 300Mbit and 5Ghz is limited to 450Mbit. Your wireless device may limit further.

On router configuration, if options allows for 1000G/Auto-Negotiate, PICK 1000G.
