1060 vs 1070

I am going to purchase an Alienware 17 R4 with a 7700hq, 16gbs of 2667 and the 1080p 300 nits ips 60hz screen. I want to use this laptop for at least five years. I want to run my games on Max settings. I have been playing PUBG alot, but also play recon, legion, and Witcher 3. I am going to choose between the 1060 and 1070. They are both overclocked cards. Would the 1060 be capable of running these games and future AAA titles at ultra graphics or should I just get the 1070? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

i'd get the 1070, 5 years is a long time in the gpu world.

5 years is a long time. And the tech world thrives on innovation. The current market dictates that you will be able to use a device without hassle for at most 3 years. After that more often than not you will start seeing various. This is even more true in case of mobile devices like laptops. You'll have to maintain it with a lot of care and clean it almost regularly to prevent dust build up.

Since the 1070 version costs only 250$ more at 1899$ compared to the 1649$ of the 1060, from a price to performance standpoint you Should get the 1070 version. But keep in mind that even 3 years from now the 1070 won't get you more than 30-40 FPS@1080p with ULTRA graphics settings for the latest AAA titles. However, if you are willing to tweak the settings and not rely on Presets you will be able play comfortably for 5 years provided that you do proper maintenance on your laptop.
