so i built a pc for a friend a while back and i tried to keep things reasonably priced by throwing a ryzen 2700 and gtx 1070 in there. recently for some reason though windows device manager has been recognizing the 1070 as an rx570 for whatever reason. we tried uninstalling a reinstalling the drivers thinking that was it but its still being recognized as an rx570. I've searched online all over trying to see if someone has encountered the same thing and haven't found anything else all that helpful. for reference the motherboard is a GIGABYTE GA-AB350-Gaming 3 board, the graphics card is a Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1070 WINDFORCE OC 8G REV2.0 Graphic Cards (GV-N1070WF2OC-8GD REV2.0) and the cpu is a ryzen 7 2700

ddu didn't fix it but it allowed the rx570 drivers to reinstall. he doesn't want mess with it anymore since its almost 4am for him. he says he hasn't noticed any significant performance dips or issues so he's just going to keep with it. Thank you for taking the time to help us out though sorry we kinda wasted your time.
For the AMD drivers to install it must be an AMD gpu. This means one of 2 things, he is either mistaken about which gpu he has or this 1070 is unfortunately a fake based on an AMD gpu. I cannot see how it can be something else.
Please install GPUZ and make a screenshot of the first tab of GPUZ when you run it.

You can upload the picture to imgur.com and link the picture here from that site.

Your friend system was just built right and there was no AMD card installed in that system before?

it was built back at the start of 2019 as a birthday gift. everything was fresh in it no used parts i'll have him install gpuZ and take a screen cap of it. in the mean time while he does that since i built it i can answer most questions in regards to the system itself. and it was only recently like a month or 2 this had happened

gpuZ showed no data since the drivers are uninstalled at the moment. we're working on reinstalling them

Download DDU - https://www.guru3d.com/files-details/display-driver-uninstaller-download.html

Start DDU and it will ask you to restart in safe mode. While in safe mode using DDU, at the right choose "AMD" and click on clean. Do not click on clean and reboot. After the clean choose Nvidia. Clean and reboot this time.

Reinstall the GTX 1070 drivers from Nvidia website.

Or you could try removing the card in device manager selecting the choice of removing the software driver at the same time. Rebooting and doing a find hardware change. Then GPU drivers install.

Where did you bought the GPU? could be counterfeit. IDK.. got TL/DR mode about this thread, but let me know the source of it just in case..

Got it from Amazon sold by Amazon. looked at reviews before buying none of them said anything about a counterfeit. they were mostly positive. we checked the serial numbers and stuff it all matches the brand and skew of the card. the only thing left would be the chip and neither of us are comfortable with opening it up to check. but it was originally recognized as a 1070 before being recognized for whatever odd reason by windows for being an rx570

Update the driver to the latest. If it doesn't work, try the older ones. You should also verify if it's a legitimate hardware or refurbished / counterfeited one like those from Chinese black market.
