I'm trying to decide which would be better to own.

Either the ASUS ROG 1070 Strix:

or the EVGA 1070 SC:

I've already decided that if I get an EVGA it will be the SC edition and not the FTW, mainly because the card I currently own is an EVGA 680 SC Signature+ (02G-P4-2685-KR) that I had to RMA twice for fan issues, and the FTW is already getting reviews from people experiencing coil whine.

I will add; while I prefer a card that is overclocked by the company, I personally will not overclock the card. I will also never have it set up in a SLI system. My preference is to have a very good single card that can handle max (or close) settings on a modded Skyrim or modded Witcher 3 game. If you need to know more about my use to give me a better recommendation, please just ask.

If you have to choose between the EVGA 1070 SC & the ROG 1070 Strix, which would you choose and why?

Solution
I would stay away from the FTW DT and would get the SC if you don't want to overclock, for the quality (as I heard, never had to use it) of EVGA CS. I did use Asus CS once (ended up being five times for the same product), and it was so painful that I stopped buying Asus MoBo after ten years (and five mobos) just for that reason.

Sidenote on the FTW DT: my understanding is that EVGA "reverse bins" them. Instead of testing the chips and putting the best ones in FTW cards, they build FTW cards with the chips they get, then test them. The ones that can't maintain/achieve the clocks set for the FTW become "FTW DT". Which is why they have the same power phase and the same led. This is mostly for people who want the leds and don't care about...
Reasons? Having used an EVGA for so long, I already know if I have a problem that the customer support is great. I don't believe I've ever owned an ASUS video card, so please give me reason(s) why you think that one is the best.

I'm in the same boat as you. I'm leaning towards the strix, but EVGA came out with a new baby version of the FTW. Its the FTW DT, although you said you'd never overclock, its basically a stock 1070, with a beefy power design to deliver solid OC'ing.

It's also the cheapest option. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814487262&cm_re=1070_ftw_dt-_-14-487-262-_-Product

Now the trouble is figuring out which one I will order. lol

Also, here's the breakdown of all the EVGA 1070's

Bottom line: get the SC, it'll be a great card (or the FTW for only $10 more).

Solution
I ended following the normal line of thinking...I bought from EVGA because I have had such a great experience already with their cards. I bought the SC mainly because I saw very very few with any coil whine or in fact any problems at all. I however have picked SamF18's answer as a more well thought out reason why the SC is the best choice :)

Thanks for your answers/help.
