Hi, I have so far gotten all of the parts I want but i'm having a bit of trouble deciding on the GPU.

The options are GIGABYTE GeForce GTX 1070 G1 GAMING ($605) or the GIGABYTE GeForce GTX 1080 G1 GAMING ($771).

I'll probably stick to 1080p and so far people have been saying only get the 1080 for 1440p. I don't understand this because wouldn't I still be getting about 20-30 more fps.

Anyway I don't know much thats why i'm here after all.

PC Specs:

CPU: i5 8600k
Motherboard: MSI Z370-A Pro
GPU: Up to you guys
CPU Cooler: Phanteks PH-TC14PE_BK
RAM: Crucial Ballistix Sport LT 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 2666MHz
PSU: Antec TP-750C 750W Power Supply 80+ Gold certified
Case: NZXT H440 (White & Black)

Note: These are the cheapest of the 1070's and 1080's in my country (South Africa)

If you're planning to stick to 1080p, then a 1070 is just fine. You would only need the 1080 if you're planning on playing really demanding games at ultra settings and still want a high FPS.
At 1080p 60hz, it will make next-to no difference in performance. Both GPUs will be able to hit 60FPS easily on any game title at 1080p, making it worthless to get the 1080 for current games.

1080p 144hz is a different story, since the 1070 isn't likely to push more than ~100FPS in intensive games, whereas the 1080 CAN hit that mark.

The 1080 will last longer than the 1070 for most titles, though I imagine by the time that will begin to matter, you will probably be looking to upgrade your GPU again.

If you don't care about the price difference, get the 1080 simply because it will last a bit longer. But if you're short on money, current performance between the 1070 and 1080 at 1080p/60hz is not noticeable at all.

I would like to play max settings for as long as possible without the need to upgrade and I might get a 144hz monitor, so I guess the safest option is the 1080.

Well if you never think you will want to play a new game at a higher setting then get the 1070. If you can afford it and it isn't a reach money-wise for you then get the 1080 to better future proof you rig. Either should work great for you. Of course if the bitcoin currencies take a big hit the prices will probably go down some on the GPUs.

I was thinking you were leaning more towards the 1070 due to cost. Even though it is a great card and will last you awhile... if you plan on keeping this card for some time and you can afford the 1080, then yeah you may as well just go with that(considering it's the better card anyway).

Yeah, I think ill go with the 1080

Yeah, the price difference isn't too big a deal considering the positives of getting the 1080 now (IMO).
