1080 graphics card poorer performance than 1070

Hello ! So here is my rig:
Core i7-6700K (not Overclocked)
16 GB RAM (3000 MHz)
Crucial SSD.
Rosewill capstone 550 watt gold rated PSU.
I had a Asus ROG Strix 1070 card which I upgraded to the Aorus GTX 1080 rev 2.0 card. One main issue I have is the idle and under load temps but I think that is to be expected. Now here is the main thing, with the Strix 1070 (no Overclock, silent mode) I used to run CS at a steady 300 FPS and it was buttery smooth. With the 1080 I get about 200-280 ish FPS with all the same settings and display is choppy and sometimes I feel like a few frames weren't drawn giving the impression of a very short freeze. What is going on ? I know Strix cards are damn amazing compared to Aorus but Gigabyte is a good manufacturer too.

All my drivers are up to date, CSGO settings are as they were (also tried optimised in Nvidia experience) and nothing else has changed to be honest. What's with the poorer performance?

Thanks and sorry for the long read !

Csgo is a heavily cpu orientated game, and the pascal (1000 nvidia series) have shown they're not very good for csgo.
Probably with a gtx 980ti you would see better peformance.
But again , its all about the cpu for that game.

try other games with that graphics card.

Thanks for the reply, yes I have heard about CSGO being more CPU dependant but that doesn't explain the performance drop which is what is confusing me. And the occasional screen tear and mini freezes.

Two fans VS three. You even mention having an issue with idle and under load temperatures, but don't clearly specify what the issue is, but one would assume your current 1080 is running warmer than your previous 1070. Temperature of your card will directly affect the actual sustained clock rate you are achieving while playing your game, so you could be seeing fewer frames because the card is down-clocking due to heat. Otherwise, when clocked equally, the 1080 and 1070 differ in only the amount of resources available and memory latency, which would give the 1080 the advantage in all titles except memory latency sensitive tasks such as mining. So, look at the difference in the sustained clock rates between your two cards if you can.

You are correct, the 1080 is running warmer though I cannot entirely say so as it could be the ambient temperature of the room but of course the room isnt 40 degrees. Idle it is about 45 degrees Celcius and after a few minutes of CSGO it is about 53-58 degrees. I dont notice any performance drop after the card heats up because that would mean when i open CS, i should have good performance until the card starts heating up and down clocking. I am not able to compare the 2 cards because I sold my 1070 but the overall experience with the 1070 was so much smoother and better. Thanks

I was thinking if I should overclock the CPU and see if things go better but considering everything else is the same, I shouldnt be disappointed in my 1080's performance.
