Hi,

I recently purchased a Alienware Aurora R5 with a 460W PSU and GTX 1070. However, I was wondering if the 460W PSU will be sufficient for the 1080 Ti.

Dell's website seemed to suggest that the 850W PSU was mainly for the SLI configuration; and since I will only ever use a single GPU, I thought an 850W PSU was an overkill.

Thanks,

No. One thing that is odd about your question is Alienware's PSU choice. When I go here https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/products/10series/geforce-gtx-1070/ to confirm my suspicion I see

500 WRecommended System Power

What is Dell doing installing a 460W PSU in that system? I can understand consumers looking to calculators and getting just enough but for Dell to purposely drop the ball...

What is Dell doing installing a 460W PSU in that system? I can understand consumers looking to calculators and getting just enough but for Dell to purposely drop the ball like that is just odd, and wrong. That is unless you purchased it used and were unaware of the 1070's needs. The seller needs to be beat unmercifully with a wet ramen noodle until it breaks over his tender flesh.

Anyways, to answer your question, the answer is no.

I then look to https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/products/10series/geforce-gtx-1080-ti/ which says

600 W Recommended System Power

I'd install nothing less than https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817438094&cm_re=EVGA_SuperNOVA_G3-_-17-438-094-_-Product
