I would stick with the build you've got. You have some great stuff in there. The 970 is a great GPU and the Intel i5-4690k is an amazing CPU for gaming. The only thing I would change in your build is the RAM and the PSU.

I would buy:
RAM: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Corsair-CMZ8GX3M2A1600C9-Vengeance-Performance-Desktop/dp/B004CRSM4I/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1434896439&sr=8-1&keywords=corsair+vengeance
PSU: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Corsair-CP-9020055-UK-RM750-Modular-Supply/dp/B00FG9FTDI/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1434896451&sr=8-3&keywords=corsair+PSU

But personally other than that I would have the same!

Good choices, good luck with your build and hope I helped :)

i thought 970 is better than 290 at 1080p but as you start to go higher the 290 comes out better with performance?

The 970 is a better GPU than the 290, but at 1080p you don't need a 970. A 970 is overkill for 1080p 60Hz gaming. It's popular, yes. But needed? no. Look up games you play and see how the 290 does. If it hits 60fps then your set. If the 970 hits 80fps then you are wasting money, cuz a 60Hz monitor won't display more than 60fps.

GTX970 and R9-290X are considered close in performance.
It takes a synthetic benchmark to differentiate.
If you play one game primarily, then look for a specific benchmark.
Otherwise, take your pick.
Nvidia seems to be a bit more reliable:
https://www.pugetsystems.com/labs/articles/Video-Card-Failure-Rates-by-Generation-563/

Your build is good and will work as is.
My thoughts:
1. A 120gb ssd can fill up quickly. 240gb would be better. Can you defer on the hard drive until you need more room?
I like Samsung EVO or Intel 730. They make their own nand chips and can control quality better.
Performance on all modern ssd's are virtually the same.
2. Ram is optimal; sniper is low profile to clear your cooler.
3. psu wattage is OK. But see if you can't find a tier 1 or 2 550-650w psu from this list:
https://community.newegg.com/eggxpert/computer_hardware/f/135081/t/45344.aspx?Redirected=true
Seasonic, XFX, Antec for starters.
Gold rating does not save you much electricity to be worth the premium.
Modular is not really an issue. You are going to use most leads anyway.
Except for a small form factor case, there is always room to hide any unused leads.
4. Fancy fan coolers sell.
I prefer cards with stock direct exhaust double slot coolers.
They get the hot vga air directly out the back of the case.
Other aftermarket coolers do a good job of cooling the vga chip in an open testbed.
But in a case, they just dump hot air back into the case where case cooling has to deal with it.
That heats up both the graphics card AND the cpu..... not good.
EVGA and others sell them. GTX970 is not a hot card anyway.
5. Your monitor has a TN panel. That is good for fast action gamers. If you play strategy, sims, mmo and such, you might prefer a IPS panel with a better quality image and a 178/178 viewing angle.

so r9 290 or r9 290x?
the game i play are mainly steam games, such as cs go, rust, ark, league of legends i will also be planning to buy stratergy games once i'm back on windows such as the Command and Conquer franchise, games such as call of duty, battlefield 4 i already own on a ps4 so don't plan to re-buy them on the pc platform.
1. so i should just go for 240gb ssd instead of having a mix of hdd and sdd and wait until i need the 1tb hdd before installing it?
2. what do u mean by this ( should i get something esle? )
3. so look for a psu from the list and chose one within the wattage range and these will be fine for the build?
4. are you saying to go with a different cooler instead of the cooler master hyper 212 evo?

For 1080p I wouldn't get a 290x since the 970 is the same price. As said before, the 970 will easily max out games like the 290. The games you listed will easily hit a solid 60fps with a 290.

It looks like geofelt agrees with me. He has the larger ssd listed, as I recommended in my first post, and the same psu too.

970 is not overkill for 1080p it's isn't enough for the Witcher 3 at this point if you want to max out settings with hairworks...

Did you read what I said?

But personally other than that I would have the same!

So I wouldn't go with a 290 or 290x. Personally Nvidia are better in my opinion. They are very fast at making/updating new drivers, they come with a load of features that AMD don't understant, and they are powerful and reliable.

Please watch this video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S5aPkZFnVYU

This video shows how in somes games the 970 scores a lot higher than the 290 or 290x!

Also you're right, the GTX 970 is designed for 1080p gaming on maxed out settings! That's the whole point of the GPU! Even JayzTwoCents (the tech youtuber) said for 1080p stick with one 970.

Link to JayzTwoCents video:

Skip to 8:40 on the video to see the conclusion.

If your friend said this:
"so r9 290 or r9 290x? the game i play are mainly steam games, such as cs go, rust, ark, league of legends i will also be planning to buy stratergy games"
then would you recommend he spend more money on a GPU than the cost of a 290?
I wouldn't. Those games are going to max out with a 290.

My opinion is to buy for what you need. If the GPU, the 290, will max out your games then you don't need to spend more money on a GPU. Also, the savings could go towards a larger SSD, better mobo, or quieter CPU cooler.

With that said, if you do get a 970 it is solid. You'll max out games at 1080p and be able to play new games as well.

Razer Gamer to play all games maxed out at 1080p
The 980 ti is needed.

The 970 can max out many however not all.

If you are playing cs go and strategy game Luke the other guy said the 960 is enough.

The Ark game that why mentioned is heavy as hell.

The 980 ti is good for 1080 120 Hz gaming.

Jay the youtuber is getting better, last year he sounded like a noob. EVGA & Nvidia are grooming him.

I do know this. I recommended 750W so he has room to upgrade in the future (always a good move), better having extra power for future upgrades.

Yes that looks great. But I would have just bought a 960 for the games you play. I have the Asus GTX 960 Strix and it gets 60+ fps on all of my games. It gets 300 fps on CS:GO and TF2, Assassins Creed, and 80 fps on Far Cry 3 (all on ultra/highest settings).

Mate a 980 Ti isn't need to max out all games in 1080p! Seriously, a 980 or 970 is fine for 1080p, more than enough power. A 980 Ti is designed for very intensive tasks and 1440p, 1080p is not really for this GPU. If you have a 980 Ti you might as well use it for 1440p.

will the 960 be able to max out the next games for 2-3 years on 1080p?

Stick with the 290. It is great for the games you play. If you don't think you'll replace the GPU, good luck not doing so, then get a 970. Overkill for now but it'll last a long time.

I really like the updated build. Great choice on mobo, RAM, SSD, PSU and.... I'm jealous. That's a killer up to date build.
