Hey all,

Setup:
  • i7-8700K OC’d @ 5.0GHz
  • RTX 2070 (non-super)
  • 32GB 3200MHz RAM
  • 1080p Monitor
I game at 1080p on my setup and predominantly play Microsoft Flight Simulator and stream it occasionally. I also play PUBG/CoD/Fortnite.

Im stuck whether I should upgrade my CPU first or my GPU first, I’ve the budget of about €1000 so I’d need to get a CPU and MOBO together or else get a good 3XXX series card.

Would I really benefit much from a 13700K compared to my 5GHz 8700k?

Also - for 1080p, would 3070Ti be plentiful?
Thank you all

Something to consider is the RTX 4060, RTX 4060 Ti and RTX 4070 are due to be released in a few months from now.

My experience is with MSFS 2020 alone. The 8700K will be fine. Would you benefit from a more powerful CPU at 1080p in MSFS? Yes. Should you bother? Probably not, and a 3070ti will be plenty for the sim at 1080p. I can run it at 1440p High/ultra with a 3060 DLSS Balanced at 60fps (with dips). And before anyone says anything, MSFS is VERY thread limited, especially with Live Weather and Air traffic turned on. I hit main thread limits on a 5800X3D sometimes and afaik it is currently the unchallenged king of MSFS. The 8700K will do well, but you will see some light stuttering in photogrammetry areas, especially while landing and low to the ground. It's fine, almost EVERYONE is still getting stutters. Once they get DX12 dialled in this may go away. FWIW use Developer Mode to determine how you are limited to assist in your planned upgrade.

(Just a quick hint, to reduce main thread usage lower Glass Cockpit Refresh to Medium or Low, you'll barely notice it)
