Hi

I'm going to be doing a gaming PC build in mid-late July, probably with the GTX 980 Ti. Should I go for a 1080p or 1440p monitor? I'm probably going to be mostly playing GTA V with maybe some other games.

Incase you are wondering, these are some of my to-be computer specs:

Motherboard - Asus Z97 Pro Wifi-AC Motherboard
CPU - Intel i7 4790k
RAM - Corsair Vengeance 16gb DDR3 1600Mhz

I'm not on a very tight budget, but price will have to be a factor.

Thanks.

This sir is not true.
We have several 27" monitors @ 1080p, they're not grainy in any way.

I talked about pixel density. You could feel a clear difference in picture quality between a 1440p vs 1080P at 27 inch and above monitors. Since we use PC monitor in very short distances, the pixel density is quite obvious. A 1080P is recommended upto a max size of 24 inch. Greater than 24 inch 1080p is counterproductive which is my personal experience and opinion.

And I don't disagree about pixel density and I would agree that if there's no budget constraints, the OP should indeed be looking at 1440p because it will look better but I vehemently disagree with your assertion that on a 27" monitor @1080p the image is 'a bit grainy'.

You expressed your opinion and I expressed my opinion the OP can decide what's best to him. Simple

1440P if you can budget it in. If you're getting a 980TI, the 1440P is where you want to game at because that card has the power and vram and everything looks so much better. I'm considering a 980TI now, after I see AMD Fury and the other cards they have on the 16th, and then get a 1440P monitor in maybe 6 months but I already have a 24" 1080P 144 hz monitor so my situation a lil different. If you can budget it in now, definitely go 1440P, you wont be dissapointed. It will only be a couple hundred or so more.
