10gb ram installed only 1.87 usable hp n40l

Added 8gb ram stick to the go n40l Microserver running Windows server 2012 that came with the original 2gb ram stick, the 8 gb is know to be compatible with the Microserver. I system info reported 10gb installed (1.87 go usable), what went wrong here? Please help

Your memory is not compatible, it's probably dual ranked when the server supports only single rank, or you have 8gb when the device supports 8 max.

If the system is http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16859107052 , it supports a maximum TOTAL memory of 8gb, but each stick is a maximum of 4gb
