So I've just started reading up a lot on computers because I'm interested in obtaining a high end gaming PC for myself. I don't really know where to start because I've only begun reading about all this stuff, but what I want to try and do is build a PC that is able to run current and upcoming games at max graphics with about 60FPS.

Do you have a monitor, peripherals?

Solution

I'm currently just using my LG 42" TV which is fine, I have a mouse and headphones that I'm fine with, but I don't have any speakers. I would be interested in buying a smaller monitor, preferably something around 24"s maybe, and also purchasing some nice sound quality speakers as well

I figured as much, so I left you a bit of wiggle room in your budget. I'm all about getting the best monitor and speakers you can afford since they don't get upgraded nearly as often.

You could get a Radeon instead. They don't have any new models but the stuff like r9 280, 280x, and 290 still perform very well and they are dirt cheap. The thing is the GTX 970 is also aggressively priced, performs better, and is very energy efficient.
