hello mates.
currently i am running 9700k with rtx 4080 and i play games @1440p 144hz monitor.i want to upgrade my 9700k to either 13700k with ddr5 or 7800x3d.
cost of upgrading to either platform is approximately same.i am using coolermaster ml360 rgb liquid cooler for 9700k which i think is compatible with am5 but not with lga 1700(not without lga 1700 bracket which is not available at my place).if i go with 13700k,i will have to buy another compatible liquid cooler also.
.i know if i go with am5 ,path of upgradability is there but i am not going to upgrade my system for 4 to 5 years atleast.
i use my rig mostly for gaming.i also use emulators like bluestacks.
Since, both cpus are good for gaming,i want to go with the one which has better 1% and 0.1% lows for smoother gameplay. after watching various reviews ,i still cannot decide which one should i pick.
thankyou in advance.

Over the past couple days I have seen tons of stuff about the 7800x3d cpu's melting and even catching the boards on fire. Gamers Nexus and a few other reputable youtube sites have been doing deep dives into them. Even AMD and the board manufacturers have begrudgingly admitted to something going on. I keep rooting for AMD so we have good competition yet I always find myself going with Intel. If I were you I would go with the I7 13700k CPU. Just make sure your mobo and cooler can handle it because they do run hot.

We are fortunate to be in a time of such close competition in the CPU market. That you you are having a tough time deciding is a testament to the great CPU choices. That you are looking at pairing the 13700k or 7800x3d with an RTX 4080 says to me that you are pretty savvy at picking parts that will give you a brute of a gaming rig while not being willing to pay the huge toll in costs to go for the absolute halo level.

The biggest difference between these CPU's is their power consumption and efficiency, which of course also impacts temperatures. A multi-threaded 77 watts for the 7800x3d versus 252 watts is an enormous disparity. In gaming the 7800x3d will be consuming less than half the power of the 13700k.

Despite the big drop in power used, the 7800x3d still manages to edge out the 13700k by an across games average of 16-17 FPS at 1440p. The 7800x3d should also do all that and run about 10c cooler while gaming.

For a strongly gaming focused PC, this tips the scales toward the 7800x3d IMOP. As someone who wanted a more all rounder rig gaming at 4k, the 7900x at the same price tier made the most sense.

What he said. ^^

No regrets here. AM5 will be easy upgrades for the next few years. LGA 1700 is EOL.

My Ryzen chip is efficient with great thermals. The CPU implosion concerns are in the rear view mirror… and besides it already happened to me. 😂😂

Been with Intel 20 years but the time to jump ship is now. 👍

The guys over at PC World just did a comparison of these two processors based on their own testing. Since it is precisely targeting your question, thought that it is worth a look for you.

Bottom line is that which is better depends as we all know on what you use your PC for, but for gaming they were surprised how "badly the 7800x3d beat up on the 13700k" and that it is the "go to part" for gaming.

thankyou all for replying.i was leaning towards 7800x3d but after seeing the burning issue of 7000 series ,and now motherboard manufacturers not giving warrenty for using expo, i dont want to take the risk.
also, read some posts claiming longer boot time on ryzen 7000, and low idle power usage of 13700k, i think i will go with 13700k.

i am thinking of pairing it with msi z790 tomahawk wifi and gskill z5 32gb 7200mhz cl34 or 6000 cl30 ram [price is same for both the kits here] and some 360mm aio cooler , and do some overclocking [but not necessarily] to reduce the performance gap @1440p.

any suggestion for the chosen parts? thanks again

I've been with intel forever and never once had an issue. I have a 13700k now and it just runs with no issues. Powers my 4090 full tilt. Go with intel and do not look back.
