i7-2600k 4.5hz+ rtx2080, 1440p 165hz monitor or 4k 60hz?

I play fps and action/rpg games equally with 1080p/144hz monitor

I think the benefits of 144Hz in FPS games far outweighs the benefit of 4K in RPG games. As you already have a 144Hz I doubt you will want to go back to 60Hz, I know I wouldn’t.

Going from 1080p to 1440p you should have about the same FPS unless the video card can't process that many at the higher resolution since you said a i7 2600.

Your cpu could be the limiting factor in some games and no you won’t achieve the same FPS as a new 10700k. However it will still be a good gaming experience.
