I know there are a lot of topics on this but most for for 1080p and 4K.

Many when upgrading resolution want the highest settings and I feel like thats what benchmarks are about.

So recently I upgraded my monitor size and now its wider than my previous one, but I went from standard HD somewhere between 720p and 1080p to 1440p.

I was all excited for this until I tried running KSP, FSX, CSGO, Orbiter etc.

On counter strike, you can lower the resolution and full screen will always work, but for Kerbal Space Program, if you use fullscreen on a lower resolution it will not be so full screen.

On 1440p lowest details it stays at 14fps with my current old GPU.

I don't want to run at high settings, I don't even need medium settings because I am not that picky about graphics, but my resolution has to be 1440p to run KSP at full screen.

For running low settings 1440p, could a 750ti do it today? Because that just happens to be what my friend has who is upgrading their machine. Or would stronger hardware be required?

Thanks!

For running low settings, GTX 750 Ti can do the job, but something in the range of R9 380 or GTX 950/960 will do better.
If you can't spend that much, R7 370 or 370x will do the job, but beware AMD's heat and possible driver issues.

GTX 970, R9 390(x), and the GTX 980 are the ultimate 1440p cards.
I'll put it to you this way: I had to get a second GTX 970 to run games above 60FPS when I upgraded to 1440p. But those are for newer games (Crysis 3, BF4, Witcher 3, Project Cars, Dirt Rally, etc.). The older games you are referring to should run fine with a GTX 760 and up at 1440p (750Ti may not do it). And by "fine" I'm talking 30-45fps.

And that's only if you would be happy with medium graphics quality settings and AA turned down/off (kind of defeats the purpose of going to a higher resolution IMO). But don't expect to play newer games whatsoever without SERIOUS graphics horsepower at 1440p.

Also FYI as a fellow FSX flight simmer, the GPU horsepower is essentially irrelevant since most of the sim runs on CPU horsepower even when you upgrade to a higher resolution. In other words, you will not get any more FPS in FSX running a GTX 980 than you would running at GTX 960. Oh...and it looks mighty good at 1440p!
