Question 144hz Monitor says "no signal" or "input out of range" when trying to set refresh rate to 144hz

Basically title. I bought DP cable and upon trying to connect the monitor would just stay black with "no signal" message in the center. When I tweaked around in the windows display settings I got it to work at 60hz but anything above that is just black
