Hello,
I am currently in Erasmus for 5 months and I bought an Acer Nitro 5 and brought my ASUS VG248 monitor with me to keep on with my gaming interest

I bought an HDMI 2.0b cable but 144hz is still not working on the vg248

After some research I found out that the vg248's hdmi port does not support 144hz

My laptop only has an HDMI port

Is there any way I can get 144hz on the VG248?
What if I use an adapter like HDMI to DVI or HDMI to DisplayPort?
Would that give me 144hz 1ms?

Thanks a lot for any help

The monitor doesn't support HDMI 2.0, only 1.4. HDMI to DVI or HDMI to Display port won't help you. If you can't use a display port cable then you would need to run at 120hz.

There are HDMI to DisplayPort adapters that will support 1080p 144 Hz without any problem.

Besides obscene price tag these super duper adapters will not help a bit if HDMI output does not support higher frame rates and variable frame rate.

OP, if your laptop does support HDMI 1.4 then you should be able to achieve 144 Hz frame rate anyway. Variable frame rate still works only in VG248QG monitor. If yours is VG248QE then you are out of luck.

Thanks for all of the answers
The research I've done throughout the day points to the conclusion that I won't be able to run anything more than 60hz@1080p or 75hz at lower resolutions

I've also learned that there is no such thing as an adapter from HDMI to DVI or DisplayPort that supports 144hz

I'll probably try selling this one and buy a new one, that's probably the best move right now

Monitor is QE

Besides obscene price tag

It is about $30–40 US for such an adapter. Not super cheap but I wouldn't call it obscene.

A true statement, but not relevant here, since the "if" condition you mentioned doesn't describe the OP's situation. I also do not see variable refresh rate mentioned anywhere, so I'm not sure why you bring it up.

This is not correct, and there are suggestions for adapters that have been tested at 1080p 144 Hz in the pinned thread, in section 3.4 as I mentioned.
