For around a year I have been using a 19.5" 900p monitor for PC gaming. Later this month I will be upgrading my GPU and CPU to a GTX 1060 6gb and CPU to a i5-6500. I was looking at this monitor that was 144hz 1080p but I don't know if it would even be worth it with my current build. I mainly play Arma 3 and CSGO. I would like 144hz for the general desktop and internet and I was told that with that PC, CSGO on 144hz would be no problem. But when I think about Arma 3, I don't think that I can run Arma 3 on 144hz with decent settings, I think it would just be a waste. I should also mention that I do not intend on upgrading my GPU or CPU for another 2-4 years. Should I just save the $80 and get a better CPU/GPU and play on 60hz or should I switch over to 144hz

I don't think you need to be a competitive gamer to enjoy 144hz. Higher frames simply means smoother, more responsive gameplay, and I would say that the difference between 60fps and 144fps is fairly significant. 144hz monitors have come down in price as the technology has been out for longer and you can find some good deals if you look around. And since you are CSGO player, I highly recommend 144hz. You will notice the difference and it will help your gameplay.
CSGO players like 144Hz monitors. Should you get 144Hz? Depends on how much you play that game and how competitive you want to be. If you are getting a 1060 and i5-6500 then I'd get 144Hz for gaming purposes.

However, if you don't really need to be super competitive, you could consider 1080p 60Hz monitor that has a IPS panel instead of TN. Colors are better that way.
