I have made my build and all is fine but my display. Rx Vega 56 (msi) has 3 display ports and one HDMI. I have bought a new display port cable but the resolution is low like 640res and cannot select above 60hz. On the HDMI cable it's 1080p 60hz. I have latest drivers. I am 99% sure it's the monitor because same problem with display port with a build. So I had to use DVI but there is no DVI port on my GPU so I am stuck on 60hz. Any help? My monitor is AOC 2460FQ

Didn't the monitor come with a Displayport cable? Says it should have on Aoc's website.

There are plenty of bad Displayport cables out there not made properly. Usually cables shipped with the product are certified.

If the monitor didn't come with a DP cable or it's been misplaced then look at Club3D DP cable. Club3D are Vesa certified brand.

Link to certified brands here;

Was an interesting thought. Have seen Glenwing suggest that before and has worked.

Have you made sure the DP ends properly lock in at both sides?

Could be the cable still, a bit odd having two faulty cables but guess it's possible. Haven't walked under any ladders (bad luck myth) lately have you lol?

In 2015 I bought this monitor, after about a year I contacted AOC because 144hz didn't work (same as 60hz) so I sent them it and they installed the firmware and when it came back 144hz worked. Maybe something to do with this?

Hmm maybe they did something in the monitor menu? Turned something on? Try look through the menu for anything to do with Displayport or refresh rate. I don't see the updated firmware being reverted.

No luck, so annoying because just built this brand new PC and can't use more than 60fps 😭

Oh ok should have asked for specs first. What are the rest of your specs?

Now that im aware you have zen2, have you checked or installed the latest motherboard chipset driver to see if pcie bus needs updating?
I updated the chipset drivers after installing windows.
Here are the following specs:
R5 3600
MSI B450 Tomahawk MAX
MSI RX Vega 56 Air Boost
HyperX Predator DDR4 16gb 3200 8x2
EVGA 650GQ Gold
Patriot Burst 480gb ssd
Win10
AOC g2460fq

Bah

Hmm it shouldn't be this hard lol.

Where abouts in Windows are you trying to set refresh rate? Tried both Windows and Amd software?

Are you able to set 1080p 60Hz with the original DP cable?
I can't find the old DP cable, on DP it's 640x480 Res and can't set above 60hz. I tried in both windows and also tried custom resolutions in AMD. I can return my Vega 56 and get one with a DVI port I guess

Would be a shame having to do that but it's your call.

There are active dual link DP to DVI cables if you want to search into it.

Glenwing has a couple of guides regarding all sorts of things about displays and cables.

Have you thought about taking your monitor and cable to a pc store and get them to test it? Wouldn't take more than a few minutes of their time surely.

So it's looking like either monitor is flaking out, are you sure DVI works?. Or have had a bad run of luck on DP cable.

Yep used 144hz on DVI for 3 years

Would be good to know if the DP connection on the monitor is faulty or it's the cable.

It's going to be harder to get GPUs with DVI as it's slowly being phased out. Wouldn't want to rely on it for too long but guess if you can find a replacement DVI GPU with similar performance would be ok for now.

Hmm i don't think that adapter would work. Video cards aren't restricted to which refresh rate Hdmi runs at, it's the monitor's job to accept it. How monitor manufacturer's configure Hdmi Hz is by choice. That's why i think the adapter won't work since you were already running Hdmi.
